The Development of English Teacher Training Program towards Teaching Basic Reading and Spelling by the Use of Phonics Instruction in Schools under the Yasothon Primary Educational Service Area Office 2

Abstract

This study aimed to study on the two main following purposes 1) to explore the current state, desirable state, and needs assessment towards the competencies of teaching basic reading and spelling by the Use of Phonics Instruction of schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2 and 2) to develop a program of English Teacher Training towards teaching basic reading and spelling by the Use of Phonics Instruction of schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2. The study was divided into 2 phases, firstly, to study the current state, desirable state, and needs assessment towards the competencies of teaching basic reading and spelling by the Use of Phonics Instruction of schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2. The data were collected from the sample group of 192 English teachers of schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2, randomly sampling by a method of school-sized classifying and stratified random sampling and the instruments used was a questionnaire. Secondly, to develop a program of English Teacher Training towards teaching basic reading and spelling by the Use of Phonics Instruction of schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2. The data were collected from 3 best-practice schools in the use of Phonics instruction and investigated the suitability and feasibility of the program by five experts. The instruments used required an interview form and assessment form. The statistical analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation and PNImodified.

1) The result of the current state over all was at a moderate level, desirable state over all was at a high level, and the priority needs index showed up in order of their importance from most to least as letter and sound correspondence, letter and sound recognition, learning objectives, learning evaluation and warm-up.

2) The development of English teacher training program towards teaching basic reading and spelling by the use of Phonics instruction in schools under the Yasothon primary educational service area office 2 was consisted of principles, objectives, content, processes,activities and materials, and evaluation, which included 5 modules; letter and sound correspondence, letter and sound recognition, learning objectives, learning evaluation and warm-up, duration of 135 hours in total. The suitability and feasibility of the program were evaluated by five experts, revealed a suitably reliable was at a high level, also the feasibility.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีความมุ่งหมายเพื่อ 1) ศึกษาสภาพปัจจุบันและสภาพที่พึงของการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 และ 2) พัฒนาโปรแกรมเสริมสร้างสมรรถนะครูด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 การวิจัยแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ระยะดังนี้ ระยะที่ 1 สภาพปัจจุบันและสภาพที่พึงประสงค์ด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพ้ืนที่ การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 เก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่เป็นครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษในโรงเรียนสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 จำนวน 192 คน ใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบแบ่งชั้นโดยใช้โรงเรียนเป็นเกณฑ์ ระยะที่ 2 การพัฒนาโปรแกรมเสริมสร้างสมรรถนะครูด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ (Phonics) สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 ได้ศึกษาโรงเรียนที่มีผลการปฏิบัติที่เป็นเลิศในการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ จำนวน 3 แห่ง และตรวจสอบความเหมาะสมและเป็นไปได้ของโปรแกรมโดยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ จำนวน 5 คน สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ยส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และดัชนีความต้องการจำเป็น ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

1. สภาพปัจจุบันและสภาพที่พึงของการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 พบว่ามีสภาพปัจจุบันโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง ( = 3.47) และมีสภาพที่พึงประสงค์โดยรวมอยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด ( = 4.51) และค่าดัชนีความต้องการจำเป็นเรียงลําดับจากมากที่สุดไปหานอยที่สุด ได้แก่ ผู้สอนมีกิจกรรม/เครื่องมือเพื่อวัดผลความก้าวหน้าการอ่านและสะกดคำก่อนและหลังการเรียนรู้โฟนิกส์ เรียงลําดับความตองการจําเปนจากมากไปหานอย คือ การสอนเชื่อมโยงระหว่างตัวอักษรและหน่วยเสียง การสอนจดจำตัวอักษรและหน่วยเสียง กำหนดจุดประสงค์การเรียนรู้ การวัดและประเมินผลการเรียนรู้ และการเตรียมความพร้อม

2. โปรแกรมเสริมสร้างสมรรถนะครูด้านการจัดการเรียนการสอนอ่านและสะกดคําศัพท์โดยวิธีการสอนแบบโฟนิกส์ สําหรับสถานศึกษาสังกัดสํานักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาประถมศึกษายโสธร เขต 2 ประกอบด้วย 6 องค์ประกอบ คือ 1) หลักการและความสำคัญ 2) วัตถุประสงค์ 3) เนื้อหา 4) วิธีดำเนินงาน 5) สื่อและกิจกรรม และ 6) การประเมินผลโปรแกรม โดยเนื้อหาของโปรแกรมประกอบด้วย 5 Module ได้แก่ Module 1 การกำหนดจุดประสงค์การเรียนรู้ Module 2 การเตรียมความพร้อม Module 3 การสอนจดจำตัวอักษรและหน่วยเสียง Module 4 การสอนเชื่อมโยงระหว่างตัวอักษรและหน่วยเสียง และ Module 5 การวัดและประเมินผลการเรียนรู้ รวมระยะเวลาการเสริมสร้างทั้งหมด 135 ชั่วโมง ผลการประเมินความเหมาะสมและความเป็นไปได้ของโปรแกรมโดยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ 5 คน โดยรวมมีความเหมาะสมอยู่ในระดับมาก ( = 3.47) และมีความเป็นไปได้อยู่ในระดับมาก ( = 3.49)
