The Development of English Speaking Skills for Eighth Graders Through the Use of Role Play

Abstract

The purposes of the research were to: 1) Develop learning management for eighth graders through the use of role-play in accordance with 75/75 efficiency criterion. 2) Compare the English-speaking skills before and after learning through the use of role-play. 3) Study the satisfaction of eighth grade students after learning through the use of role-play to promote English speaking skills. The research sample consisted of 39 students from Mathayom 2/14, semester 2 of academic year 2022 at Phadungnaree School, Mueang District, Maha Sarakham Province, selected by the cluster random sampling technique. This research is an Experimental Research. The instruments used in this study were 1) Learning management plan using role play to promote English speaking skills of eight grade students which include 4 plans, 3 hours per each plan, total time 12 hours. 2) A test to measure English speaking skills of eight grade students before and after learning using role-play. 3. A satisfaction test contains 20 questions. Data were analyzed using statistics, average percentage, value standard deviation and t-test

The results of the study were as follows:

1. The efficiency of learning management trough the use of role-play to promote English speaking skills for eighth graders had an efficiency of 75.16/75.51, which met the criteria.

2. English speaking skills of eighth grade students after using role-play learning management were higher than before using role-play learning management at a level of significance .05

3. The overall of students’ satisfaction with learning management through the use of role-play to promote English speaking skills was at the high level. (Average = 4.09 และ S.D. = 0.90)

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อ 1) เพื่อพัฒนาการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ตามเกณฑ์ 75/75 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษก่อนและหลังเรียนของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 โดยใช้การจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติ 3) เพื่อศึกษาความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้ โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติเพื่อส่งเสริมทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ห้อง 2/14 ภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2565 โรงเรียนผดุงนารี อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดมหาสารคาม จำนวน 39 คน ได้มาโดยการสุ่มแบบกลุ่ม (Cluster random sampling) เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ 1. แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติเพื่อส่งเสริมทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 จำนวน 4 แผน แผนละ 3 ชั่วโมง รวมเวลา 12 ชั่วโมง 2. แบบทดสอบวัดทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ก่อนและหลังการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติ 3. แบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติ จำนวน 20 ข้อ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติ ค่าร้อยละค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และการทดสอบค่าที

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

1. ประสิทธิภาพของการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติเพื่อส่งเสริมทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 มีประสิทธิภาพ เท่ากับ 75.16/75.51 ซึ่งเป็นไปตามเกณฑ์ที่ผู้วิจัยตั้งไว้

2. ทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษก่อนและหลังเรียนของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 โดยใช้การจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ .05

3. ระดับความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้บทบาทสมมติเพื่อส่งเสริมทักษะการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ โดยรวมมีความพึงพอใจอยู่ในระดับมาก ( X = 4.09 และ S.D. = 0.90)
