| Abstract: | The research objectives have three: 1) To investigate the history and development of Si Zhu Yue music in Jiangsu, China. 2) To analyze the musical characteristics of Si Zhu Yue music. 3) To propose guidelines for the preservation and transmission of Si Zhu Yue music in Jiangsu, China. This research utilizes ethnomusicology's qualitative research method, interviewing key informants, and employing musicology's methodology for music analysis in fieldwork.
The research results are as follows: 1) The history and development of Si Zhu Yue Music, and divides the historical origin of Si Zhu Yue Music into the following three stages: Traditional folk music from ancient times to the end of the Qing Dynasty" (from ancient times to 1912 AD.). From the period of the Republic of China to the period of reform and opening up, the music was arranged by the elegant gathering (1912–1978). Music has been composed professionally since the reform and opening-up period. (after 1978 AD)
2) The musical characteristics of Si Zhu Yue music are melody elegance, pentatonic scale progression and ornamentation, repetition and variation, and the use of glissandos and bends. Rhythmic characteristics include stable and bright pulses, characteristic of plate changes. Sound characteristics bamboo zither timbre, silk string instrument timbre, mixed timbre, dynamic expressiveness, subtle vibrato, and ornamentation. Tonality characteristics resonance and sustained interaction, pentatonic tuning system.
3) The guidelines for the preservation and transmission of Si Zhu Yue music. Si Zhu Yue music is spread through modern means like the internet, books, videos, and music, influenced by social influence and government subsidies. Development modes conform to modern aesthetic standards, urbanization, commercialization, and cooperation. - |
