Zhang Yimou's Film: Application and Integration of Chinese Traditional Culture

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) To study the reasons why director Zhang Yimou draws lessons from excellent traditional Chinese culture. 2) To study how director Zhang Yimou draws on Chinese excellent traditional culture for film production. 3) To study Zhang Yimou's films influence on Chinese traditional culture affect the Chineseness of films. This study is qualitative research. A qualitative study was conducted on Zhang Yimou's filmsas the research object. Research data were collected through relevant literature analysis, survey methods. Research tools include literature survey methods, Interview methods, Survey methods. The findings are presented through descriptive analysis. The results of the study are as follows.

1. The social and cultural background of Zhang Yimou's films. This paper expounds the background of Zhang Yimou's films from two aspects. 2. Study how Zhang Yimou's films draw on Chinese traditional culture in narrative, shape design and music design. It is to study the Chineseness of Zhang Yimou's films, that is, the influence of Zhang Yimou's learning from Chinese traditional culture on himself. The Chineseness of Zhang Yimou's films is embodied in the Chineseness of cultural identity, the Chineseness of language, the Chineseness of cultural symbol, the Chineseness of cultural image and the Chineseness of cultural identity.

4. Summarizing and thinking about Zhang Yimou's films drawing lessons from Chinese traditional culture has important implications for the development of Chinese films. 1) From the perspective of concept, how Chinese films learn from Chinese traditional culture Chinese films learn from Chinese traditional culture should follow the law of film media itself and take film as the main body. 2) In terms of film production model, establish a new model suitable for Chinese film production and development. 3) From the perspective of aesthetics, Chinese films should reshape the aesthetic system of Chinese films. Chinese films make comprehensive use of traditional Chinese poetic theory, painting theory and drama theory and other theoretical resources, learn from Chinese aesthetic tradition, combine Chinese aesthetic resources, and integrate western aesthetic resources to construct Chinese film aesthetic system with Chinese characteristics. 4) Establish the cultural value system of Chinese films. 5) Create a film genre and style specific to China. From the perspective of cultural value, Chinese films need to reshape the spirit of Chinese traditional culture and construct the value system of Chinese films. In the context of multi-culture, on the basis of inheriting traditional Chinese cultural values, Chinese film cultural values integrate modern Chinese cultural spirit and Western cultural values to form a Chinese film cultural value system with Chinese characteristics.
