| Abstract: | The dissertation is concerned with the study of the exploring the development status in jazz music in BeiJing, China. has the following objectives: 1) to explore the development status of jazz music in Beijing. 2) to analyze the musical characteristics of Beijing jazz music. 3) to propose guidelines on how to increase jazz music's popularity in Beijing, China. Using the theoretical methods of ethnomusicology, musicology, and Western music, the researcher investigated, analyzed, and described the data collected from a literature review and field work.
The following research results are related to the above research objectives:
Through field investigation, we investigate the development status of Beijing jazz bands, jazz performance venues, and jazz festivals from 2006 to 2024, and this article will be divided into three time periods, namely: 2006-2015, 2016-2020, and 2021-2024. These figures, increased and formalized year by year, not only increase financial income and performance opportunities for local jazz musicians, but also amplify the artistic value of jazz, allowing it to reach a wider audience.
Through the analysis of four original jazz music works by the three most representative jazz musicians in Beijing, this paper explores the musical characteristics of Beijing jazz. Original musical compositions by local Beijing jazz musicians are accomplished through the use of pentatonic scales and free-form melodies, standard jazz rhythms and different forms of coordinated rhythms, as well as less functional chromatic harmonies in addition to standard jazz harmonic progressions. Create their own music.
Finally, some opinions and specific measures were put forward to improve the popularity of jazz in Beijing, including: making full use of the role of middle schools and primary schools in the spread of jazz, strengthening government support to promote more jazz cultural exchange activities, and adding more jazz music Festival, vigorously cultivate jazz talents, effectively solve communication problems, and diversify communication and development models. These comprehensive measures will contribute to the prosperity of jazz music in contemporary society. - |
