Abstract: The Songshan area is rich in cultural resources and serves as the location of the World Cultural Heritage site "The Centre of Heaven and Earth." This study employs literature analysis, field research, and other research methods to explore the role of Songshan culture in tourism development, with a particular focus on the challenges and strategies related to the protection and sustainable development of cultural heritage. This paper aims to: 1) study and document the historical development of Songshan culture; 2) analyze the current state of Songshan culture tourism and the challenges faced in its preservation and development;  3) propose strategies to promote the sustainable development of Songshan culture tourism. This study primarily employs qualitative research methods and applies relevant theoretical frameworks to analyze information and literature related to Songshan culture. A total of 43 people were selected for data collection, include 8 key informants, 10 non-key informants, and 25 general informants. Field surveys, descriptive analysis, and qualitative research techniques were utilized to gather and organize data. The results of the study are as follows: 1) Songshan culture has a long history of development. As early as the pre-Qin period, Songshan featured ritualistic practices and ceremonial culture. As representatives of Songshan culture and the tri of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, landmarks such as Shaolin Temple, Songyang Academy, and Zhongyue Temple have experienced fluctuations in their prominence due to social upheavals and the influence of rulers. Over its 2,000-year historical development, Songshan culture has established its unique historical and culture significance. 2) In response to changing circumstances, Songshan culture, owing to its distinctive culture resources, has progressively entered a phase of rapid culture tourism development. On the one hand, local policies have been formulated to protect Songshan's culture heritage through the application of vanced technologies; on the other, efforts have been me to enhance its auxiliary value by improving infrastructure and increasing its influence in culture tourism, thereby promoting culture transmission and development through tourism. However, the process of culture tourism has encountered issues of imbalance between heritage preservation and exploitation, such as excessive commercialization, uneven development of culture resources, insufficient culture experiences, and inequate infrastructure and service. 3) The preservation and development of culture is a systematic, complex, and long-term endeavor that requires multifaceted efforts. It necessitates coordinating relationships among various stakeholders while integrating tradtion and modernity to keep pace with the times. The application of vanced technology offers broer paths for the protection and inheritance of Songshan culture, transforming "static" culture heritage into dynamic and engaging experiences.         In conclusion, this study highlights the historical value and uniqueness of Songshan culture. Against the backdrop of modern rapid development, utilizing culture tourism as a means to protect, transmit, and develop Songshan culture is of great significance. Moving forward, it is imperative to explore the deep integration of Songshan culture and the tourism industry, maintain the distinctiveness of Songshan culture, and elevate its global profile, thereby contributing to the inheritance and development of Chinese civilization.
