dc.description.abstractIn recent years, driven by the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, countries around the world have been implementing their own measures to protect intangible cultural heritage. Shanxi Kangwei paintings have traversed the annals of human history, spanning both ancient and modern times. They are not only a folk art with practical significance in the lives of northern people but also play an indelible role in the rest and cultivation of character of the people of Shanxi. This study, titled "The Role of Kangwei Paintings in the Formation of Cultural Identity and Commodification in the Revitalization of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Yuanping City, Shanxi Province," explores the cultural value and commodification potential of Kangwei paintings within the context of intangible cultural heritage protection, aiming to achieve the following three research objectives: 1) Analyze the mechanisms by which Kangwei paintings contribute to cultural identity formation. The factors influencing the artistic style of Shanxi Kangwei paintings are quite complex. While discussing its cultural identity, also consider aspects such as themes, composition, border patterns, colors, lines, and the philosophical ideas contained within, Further elaborated on the overall artistic expression style, techniques, and forms of Yuan Ping Kangwei paintings. Based on an in-depth analysis of the style and characteristics of Yuan Ping Kangwei paintings, this study further explores the aesthetic features formed by this art in creating space, composition layout, and visual expression, as well as the artistic value it embodies.  2) It studies the promotion of local economy and cultural dissemination through the commercialization of Kangwei paintings. By examining the artistic expression techniques and aesthetic characteristics of Yuanping Kangwei paintings, and integrating the concept of cultural identity, a theoretical framework is established for the formation of cultural identity in the revitalization process of Kangwei paintings as intangible cultural heritage.  3) Explore a balanced path for the protection and innovative development of Kangwei painting culture in the revitalization of intangible cultural heritage. The study employs a multidisciplinary approach, using literature analysis to outline the historical and artistic value of Kangwei paintings. Using field surveys and in-depth interviews, we will obtain first-hand information from the creators, inheritors, and related communities of Kangwei paintings in Yuanping City, Shanxi. combined with case analysis methods, we will explore the specific practices and outcomes of the commercialization of Kangwei paintings. Research shows that Kangwei paintings, as a unique folk art of Yuanping City in Shanxi, not only play an important role in enhancing local cultural identity and emotional belonging but also inject new vitality into the local economy and cultural dissemination through commercialization. This study provides a reference model for the protection and commercialization development of other intangible cultural heritages, while also exploring theoretical and practical paths for the sustainable development of local culture. The research found that the practical mechanisms for the revitalization of Kangwei paintings, as an intangible cultural heritage, include institutional support mechanisms, theoretical consolidation mechanisms, collaboration mechanisms, social education mechanisms, application innovation mechanisms, and efficiency evaluation mechanisms. However, relevant research methods have not yet been proposed, and no conclusions have been drawn from related studies. Therefore, based on the revitalization framework of the Yuanping Kangwei paintings, the prospects of cultural identity and commercialization concepts are proposed:Study the historical development and cultural significance of the Kangwei paintings before it was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage. Consolidate the theoretical foundation of the revitalization of Kangwei paintings as intangible cultural heritage, scientifically define the connotation and extension of Kangwei paintings, and improve the mechanism for forming cultural identity in the revitalization of Kangwei paintings as intangible cultural heritage. Enrich the theoretical foundation of the commercialization research of Kangwei paintings, and analyze the process and practice of the commercialization of Kangwei paintings in the revitalization of intangible cultural heritage in Yuanping City, Shanxi Province, China.  By gaining a deeper understanding of their rise and development, they can create higher artistic and cultural value, enhance the local people's sense of national pride, foster a sense of local cultural identity, become the cultural and spiritual backbone of the government, symbolize the city, and awaken public awareness of preservation and heritage. This study has established Kangwei paintings as an important carrier of local cultural memory due to their unique artistic form and profound historical and cultural connotations. The recognition of intangible cultural heritage has enhanced the cultural value of Kangwei paintings, stimulated residents' local pride and sense of identity, and consolidated the mechanisms for forming cultural identity through community participation and intergenerational transmission. In the process of commercialization promoting local economic and cultural dissemination, the artistic elements of Kangwei paintings have been successfully applied to cultural and creative products, home design, and tourism souvenirs, driving the transformation of cultural value into economic value. The commercialization perception of Yuanping Kangwei paintings reflects that local consumers can distinguish between intangible cultural heritage products and other products. The collective emotions associated with Yuanping Kangwei paintings demonstrate local consumers' feelings of congruence and satisfaction towards intangible cultural heritage products, which form the basis of cultural identity for these products. The sense of community in the Yuanping Kangwei paintings reflects the influence of the regional characteristics of intangible cultural heritage products and the ritualistic aspects of the consumption context on consumers, leading to the emergence of a "self-group" and "other-group" consciousness, which is a prerequisite for cultural identity with intangible cultural heritage products. The cultural self-esteem of Yuanping Kangwei paintings reflects the local consumers' active pursuit of the cultural identity, national sentiment, and group evaluation embedded in the intangible cultural heritage products within the Chinese context. This represents an elevation of cultural identity for these products, which holds theoretical significance for the construction of a commercialization model for intangible cultural heritage products. To promote the formation of cultural identity and commercialization development of Kangwei paintings in the revitalization of intangible cultural heritage in Yuanping City, Shanxi Province, the following suggestions are summarized and proposed: Strengthen policy support and resource investment, improve intangible cultural heritage protection policies, encourage community participation and provide professional guidance. promote the integration of culture and technology, use digital technology to enrich the dissemination forms of Kangwei paintings, and attract the attention of young groups. Build a diversified market development model, develop cultural and creative products, cultural experience courses, and tourism projects, create a brand for Kangwei painting, and enhance its domestic and international recognition. Focus on balancing cultural preservation and innovation, avoiding excessive commercialization, deeply exploring cultural connotations, and achieving dynamic protection and inheritance through research and exchange. These suggestions aim to achieve the sustainable development of Kangwei paintings and provide a reference for the revitalization of intangible cultural heritage.en
