Abstract: This action research aimed to develop the mathematical problem-solving ability of Mattayom Suksa 2 students through the Open Approach learning management method in the topic of Surface Area and Volume, targeting an average problem-solving score of no less than 70% of the full score. The study's target group comprised 6 Mattayom Suksa 2 students from Ban Khonkaen (Nikornrat Sattakarn) School in Roi Et Province, during the second semester of the 2024 academic year. These students were identified as having low mathematical problem-solving assessment scores. Research instruments included 12 Open Approach learning management plans, 5 sets of mathematical problem-solving assessment tools, and semi-structured interviews. The researcher employed an Action Research design, conducting the study across 5 operational cycles: Cycle 1 used learning plans 1-3 Cycle 2 used plans 4-6 Cycle 3 used plans 7-9 Cycle 4 used plans 10-12 and Cycle 5 also used plans 10-12. Following each operational cycle, students completed a mathematical problem-solving assessment, and all target students were interviewed. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The research findings indicate that the target students' mathematical problem-solving ability continuously improved after learning through the Open Approach. The development of average scores progressed as follows:  Cycle 1 was 71.53%, Cycle 2 was 73.61%, and in Cycle 3, students' problem-solving ability increased to 79.86%. This demonstrated that teaching and learning using the Open Approach can effectively develop students' problem-solving ability. However, in Cycle 4, scores decreased to 64.58%. While students' mathematical problem-solving ability remained at a developing level, this score reduction was primarily a result of the increased complexity of the content and the more challenging application of formulas in this cycle. Nevertheless, by appropriately adjusting the learning management plans, which reflected the flexibility of the Open Approach to adapt to varying content challenges and not be rigidly bound by previous content formats, in Cycle 5, students' problem-solving ability dramatically increased to 81.94%. This clearly exceeded the set criterion of 70%, with average scores for each step of the problem-solving process all above 70%, indicating comprehensive ability across all dimensions. This shows that the Open Approach not only promotes critical thinking skills in problem-solving through essential steps but also serves as an approach with significant potential for continuous adaptation and development. It effectively responds to the dynamic learning and diverse differences among learners in real situations, leading to sustainable and comprehensive development of mathematical problem-solving ability.
