The Relationships Between Health Beliefs and Infection Prevention Behaviors among Patients with Lung Cancer Receiving Chemotherapy

Abstract

This descriptive correlation research aimed to examine the relationships between health beliefs and infection prevention behaviors among patients receiving chemotherapy for lung cancer at Roi-Et Hospital, Roi-Et Province. Table of random number was used to select 72 patients for the study. The research instruments were the Health Beliefs Related Infection questionnaire and 2) the Infection Prevention Behavior questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for reliability were .85 and .84, respectively. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficients. The results showed the following: 1) The patients had a mean score of the overall health beliefs at a high level. 2) The patients had a mean score of overall infection prevention behaviors at a high level. 3) Overall health beliefs were positively correlated with infection-prevention behaviors (r = .39, p ≤ .05). Perceived susceptibility to infection and perceived benefits of action had a positively correlation with infection prevention behaviors (r=.34, .38, p ≤ .05 respectively). Perceived barriers to action had negatively correlated with infection prevention behaviors (r = - .19, p ≤ .05), and perceived severity of infection did not correlate significantly with infection prevention behaviors. The results of the study indicated overall health beliefs about infection were significantly associated with infection prevention behaviors. Healthcare providers should create strategies to promote health beliefs about infection to perform appropriate behaviors to prevent infection.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงบรรยายแบบหาความสัมพันธ์ เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพกับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อของผู้ป่วยมะเร็งปอดที่ได้รับเคมีบำบัด ที่มารับบริการที่แผนกผู้ป่วยนอก โรงพยาบาลร้อยเอ็ด จังหวัดร้อยเอ็ด ศึกษาในกลุ่มตัวอย่างจำนวน 72 ราย คัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างโดยใช้ตารางเลขสุ่ม เครื่องมือวิจัยประกอบด้วย 1) แบบสอบถามความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพเกี่ยวกับการติดเชื้อ 2) แบบสอบถามพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อ ซึ่งมีค่าความเชื่อมั่นเท่ากับ .85 และ .84 ตามลำดับ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยสถิติการแจกแจงความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และสถิติสัมประสิทธิ์สหพันธ์ด้วยวิธีของเพียร์สัน

ผลการวิจัยสรุปว่า

1) ผู้ป่วยมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยการรับรู้ความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับสูง

2) ผู้ป่วยมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับสูง

3) ความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพโดยรวมมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้ออย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 (r = .39) การรับรู้โอกาสเสี่ยงของการติดเชื้อ และการรับรู้ประโยชน์ในการปฏิบัติตัวมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อที่ระดับ .05 (r=.34, .38 ตามลำดับ) การรับรู้อุปสรรคในการปฏิบัติตัวมีความสัมพันธ์ทางลบกับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้ออย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 (r = -.19) และการรับรู้ความรุนแรงของการติดเชื้อไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพโดยรวมเกี่ยวกับการติดเชื้อมีความสัมพันธ์อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติกับพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อ ดังนั้นผู้ให้บริการด้านสุขภาพควรสร้างกลยุทธ์เพื่อส่งเสริมความเชื่อด้านสุขภาพเกี่ยวกับการติดเชื้อเพื่อให้มีพฤติกรรมการป้องกันการติดเชื้อที่เหมาะสม
