Effectiveness of Social Support and Good Model in Dental Health Promotion Program on Primary School Students for Dental Caries Prevention

Abstract

The purpose of quasi-experimental research was to study the effectiveness of social support and good model in dental health promotion program on Primary School Students for Dental Caries Prevention in Service Area of Kannoy Health Promoting Hospital, Kannoy Subdistrict, Kham Khuean Kaeo District, Yasothon Province. The sample were 44 school age students selected by simple random sampling then divided 22 students to the experimental group and 22 students to the comparison group.The experimental group received dental health promotion program for 12-weeks. Self - administered questionnaire and plaque index check list was employed for data collection before and after experiment. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Paired t-test and Independent t - test. Significant level was at 0.05.

The results revealed that the experimental group had improved significantly in Knowledge, Perceived Self- Efficacy, Preventive Practice than before the experimented of the program and improved significantly than the comparison groups.(p<0.05). And the student’s average plaque index in the experimental group was significantly decreased after implemented program (p<0.05) and significantly decreased than comparison group after implemented program.

In conclusion, the social support and good model in dental health promotion program on primary school students for dental caries prevention, It could improve the prevention behavior of dental caries and reduce plaque index in students.

การศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยแบบกึ่งทดลอง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประสิทธิผลของโปรแกรมส่งเสริมทันตสุขภาพโดยแรงสนับสนุนทางสังคมและตัวแบบที่ดีต่อการป้องกันโรคฟันผุของเด็กนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาตอนปลายในเขตบริการโรงพยาบาลส่งเสริมสุขภาพตำบลแคนน้อย ตำบลแคนน้อย อำเภอคำเขื่อนแก้ว จังหวัดยโสธร กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้มาโดยการสุ่มอย่างง่าย จำนวน 44 คน แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มทดลอง 22 คน และกลุ่มเปรียบเทียบ 22 คน โดยกลุ่ม ทดลองได้รับโปรแกรมส่งเสริมทันตสุขภาพโดยแรงสนับสนุนทางสังคมและตัวแบบที่ดีต่อการป้องกันโรคฟันผุ ระยะเวลา 12 สัปดาห์ เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนา ได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบน มาตรฐาน และสถิติเชิงอนุมานได้แก่ สถิติ Paired t-test และสถิติ Independent t-test กําหนดระดับนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ 0.05

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ภายหลังการทดลองกลุ่มมทดลองมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยคะแนนด้านความรู้เกี่ยวกับการป้องกันโรคฟันผุ การรับรู้ความสามารถตนเองในการป้องกันโรคฟันผุและโรคเหงือกอักเสบ การปฏิบัติตนในการป้องกันโรคฟันผุและโรคเหงือกอักเสบสูงกว่าก่อนการทดลอง และสูงกว่ากลุ่มเปรียบเทียบอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.05) และพบว่าปริมาณแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ลดลงกว่าก่อนการทดลองอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.05)

สรุป โปรแกรมปรับเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรมสุขภาพสำหรับการป้องกันการเกิดโรคฟันผุในเด็กนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาตอนปลาย สามารถปรับปรุงพฤติกรรมการป้องกันโรคฟันผุและลดแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ในนักเรียนได้
