Siraporn : Developed from performance jewelry to national costume in Miss Grand Thailand Contest

Abstract

Miss Grand Thailand Contest is the selection of a representative beauty queen of each province in order to participate in the public relations activities about tourist attractions, art and culture through a national costume based on the identity of Thai culture. Thus, Siraporn of Thai Dramatic Arts has been increasingly applied to many purposes and functions. This research was aimed at studying the background of the development of Siraporn and the adaptation of it for making a national costume for each beauty queen in Miss Grand Thailand Contest. This is a qualitative research that research data was collected through a document study and a field study based on the statements of a sample of 27 informants that consisted of 4 key informants, 3 casual informants, and 20 informants who used Siraporn. Research instruments were a survey form, an observation form, a structured interview form, and an unstructured interview form. Research results were presented by means of a descriptive analysis.

The research results revealed that at present Siraporn is not only used for Thai Dramatic Arts but it is also used for various purposes increasingly. A shape and a form of Siraporn has been developed, adapted, reduced, or extended in order to be appropriate for decorating together with other costumes. The selection of alternative materials in order to reduce weight and time for making it is regarded as an innovation. Moreover, apart from its beauty is that when someone is wearing and presenting it on a stage, it can facilitate one’s movement.

The change of the roles and functions of Siraporn is changed from the symbols of positions, ranks, and titles of characters in a play to a national costume in a beauty queen contest according to an inspiration and design. The adaptation, the combination, and the application of it is conducted in order to respond to requirements and inspirations of users. It is regarded as a change and an elevation of the roles and functions of Siraporn. Traditionally, Siraporn was used only for some specific groups but at present it is used for various groups that leads to the new use and this is a cultural adaptation in order to be consistent with the present era and perpetuate it as a cultural heritage of the Thai people from now on.

การประกวดมิสแกรนด์ไทยแลนด์เป็นการคัดเลือกนางงามตัวแทนของแต่ละจังหวัด มาร่วมทำกิจกรรมเผยแพร่ประชาสัมพันธ์สถานที่ท่องเที่ยว ศิลปวัฒนธรรม โดยนำเสนอผ่านชุดประจำชาติภายใต้เอกลักษณ์วัฒนธรรมของไทย ศิราภรณ์ของนาฏศิลป์ไทยจึงถูกนำไปประยุกต์ ปรับเปลี่ยนเพื่อนำไปใช้ในรูปแบบที่หลากหลายมากยิ่งขึ้นการวิจัยครั้งนี้มีความมุ่งหมายที่จะศึกษาความเป็นมาพัฒนาการของศิราภรณ์ไทย และการนำศิราภรณ์ไทยไปประยุกต์ใช้ประกอบชุดประจำชาติในการประกวดมิสแกรนด์ไทยแลนด์ โดยวิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ การเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากศึกษาจากเอกสารและข้อมูลภาคสนามจากการข้อมูลกลุ่มตัวอย่างได้แก่ กลุ่มผู้รู้จำนวน 4 คน กลุ่มผู้ปฏิบัติจำนวน 3 คนและกลุ่มผู้ใช้งานศิราภรณ์จำนวน 20 คน รวมจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 27 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ประกอบด้วยแบบสำรวจ แบบสังเกต แบบสัมภาษณ์ที่มีโครงสร้างและไม่มีโครงสร้าง นำเสนอผลของการวิจัยด้วยวิธีการพรรณนาวิเคราะห์

ผลการศึกษาผู้วิจัยพบว่า ปัจจุบันนอกจากการใช้งานศิราภรณ์ในงานนาฏกรรมไทย ศิราภรณ์ไทยจึงถูกนำไปใช้งานในรูปแบบที่มีความหลากหลายมากขึ้น รูปแบบและรูปทรงของศิราภรณ์จึงมีการพัฒนา ปรับเปลี่ยน ลด ทอน ขยาย เพื่อให้เหมาะสมเมื่อนำไปประกอบกับเครื่องแต่งกาย การเลือกใช้วัสดุทดแทนเพื่อลดปริมาณของน้ำหนักและลดระยะเวลาในการประดิษฐ์สร้าง ซึ่งนับได้ว่าเป็นนวัตกรรมใหม่ อีกประเด็นที่สำคัญที่นอกเหนือจากความสวยงามของศิราภรณ์ คือการสวมใส่แล้วสามารถเคลื่อนไหวร่างกายได้อย่างคล่องแคล่วขณะนำเสนออยู่บนเวที

การเปลี่ยนแปลงบทบาทหน้าที่ของศิราภรณ์ จากการเป็นสัญลักษณ์ที่แสดงถึงตำแหน่ง ยศฐาบรรดาศักดิ์ของตัวละครในนาฏกรรม มาประกอบชุดประจำชาติในการประกวดนางงามตามแรงบันดาลใจและการออกแบบ มีการปรับเปลี่ยน ผสมผสาน ประยุกต์ เพื่อตอบสนองเงื่อนไขและแรงบันดาลใจของผู้ใช้ ถือได้ว่าเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงและยกระดับบทบาทหน้าที่ของศิราภรณ์ จากที่เคยใช้ประโยชน์เพียงเฉพาะกลุ่ม ได้ถูกขยายวงกว้างนำไปสู่การใช้งานในรูปแบบใหม่ เป็นการปรับปรนทางวัฒนธรรมเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับยุคสมัยและเพื่อให้ดำรงอยู่เป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมคู่คนไทยสืบไป
