Emotional Labor of Teachers: Cross Cultural Research (Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia)

Abstract

The research aimed to: 1) Develop a scale to measure teachers' emotional labor, 2) Study the level of emotional labor among teachers in Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia, 3) Examine the relationship between teachers' emotional labor, burnout, and work experience, 4) Compare emotional labor among teachers from Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia, and 5) Compare emotional labor among teachers with varying levels of work experience. The sample consisted of 1,080 Thai teachers for confirmatory factor analysis and 324 teachers from Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia to examine the application of the emotional labor scale across these three countries. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and One-Way MANOVA.

The findings revealed that: 1) Teachers' emotional labor consists of two components: surface acting and deep acting. 2) South Korean teachers had the highest level of surface acting, while Thai teachers had the highest level of deep acting. 3) In Thailand, all aspects of teachers' emotional labor positively correlated with all aspects of burnout. In South Korea, surface acting positively correlated with all aspects of burnout. Teachers with moderate work experience showed a positive correlation with depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. Teachers with extensive work experience showed a positive correlation with deep acting. In Indonesia, teachers with extensive work experience showed a positive correlation with surface acting. 4) Thai teachers demonstrated lower surface acting than South Korean teachers but higher deep acting. They had higher levels of both surface acting and deep acting compared to Indonesian teachers. South Korean teachers exhibited higher surface acting than Indonesian teachers but lower deep acting. 5) Teachers with less work experience exhibited higher deep acting than those with moderate work experience and lower surface acting than those with extensive work experience.

การวิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อพัฒนาแบบวัดภาระทางอารมณ์ของครู 2) เพื่อศึกษาระดับภาระทางอารมณ์ของครูในประเทศไทย เกาหลีใต้ และอินโดนีเซีย 3) เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาระทางอารมณ์ของครูกับความเหนื่อยหน่าย และประสบการณ์การทำงาน 4) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบภาระทางอารมณ์ของครูระหว่างประเทศไทย เกาหลีใต้ และอินโดนีเซีย 5) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบภาระทางอารมณ์ของครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานต่างกัน โดยตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ ครูไทย จำนวน 1,080 คน เพื่อวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงยืนยัน และครูไทย เกาหลีใต้ และอินโดนีเซีย จำนวน 324 คน เพื่อศึกษาผลการใช้แบบวัดภาระทางอารมณ์กับครูใน 3 ประเทศ สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน การวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบเชิงยืนยัน การวิเคราะห์สัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สัน และการวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนพหุคูณทางเดียว One Way MANOVA

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ภาระอารมณ์ของครูมี 2 องค์ประกอบ คือ การแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึก และการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจ 2) ครูเกาหลีใต้มีการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกสูงที่สุด และครูไทยมีการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจสูงที่สุด 3) ในประเทศไทย ภาระทางอารมณ์ของครูทุกด้านมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับความเหนื่อยหน่ายของครูทุกด้าน ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ การแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับความเหนื่อยหน่ายทุกด้าน ครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานปานกลาง มีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับความเฉยชา ไม่ใส่ใจ และการขาดประสิทธิภาพในการทำงาน และครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานมากมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจ และประเทศอินโดนีเซีย ครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานมากมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึก 4) ครูไทยมีการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกต่ำกว่าครูเกาหลีใต้ และมีการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจสูงกว่าครูเกาหลีใต้ มีการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกและการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจสูงกว่าครูอินโดนีเซีย ครูเกาหลีใต้มีการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกสูงกว่าครูอินโดนีเซีย และมีการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจต่ำกว่าครูอินโดนีเซีย และ 5) ครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานน้อยมีการปรับความรู้สึกภายในจิตใจสูงกว่าครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานปานกลาง และมีการแสร้งแสดงความรู้สึกต่ำกว่าครูที่มีประสบการณ์การทำงานมาก
