The Narrative of the Buddha's Encounters with Mara: Reproduction and Transmission in Contemporary Media

Abstract

This study aimed to study reproduction, content transmission idea and literary convention the narrative of the buddha’s encounters with Mara in contemporary media. In this regard, the researcher studied the narrative of the buddha’s encounters with Mara in both print and electronic media, totaling 23 idioms.

The results indicated that the narrative of the buddha’s encounters with Mara in contemporary media still being reproduced according to the original storyline by presenting it through various forms rather than in the past, showing the development of repeated production and the succession of the story. In content field, print media reflected the succession and creation of stories in the form of prose literature when electronic media reflected the dynamics of the succession of the content by transforming the story of the Buddha from the written literature to the storytelling in other forms such as music, movies and animated films. The details or event of the story and characters were improved in order to be consistent with the purpose of creating the story and pointing out that the success of the Lord Buddha being a success that based on normal humanity who was diligent. In the field of idea, it showed that he still inherited the Buddhist’s ways of overcoming the Mara that had been acquired by the Buddha image and enlightenment caused by the various virtues of the Lord Buddha which was not any strength or saber. Moreover, the reproducing the story, the Buddha's adventures also inherited the teachings that reflected the ways of teaching, propagating the principles of the Buddha and pointing out the problem-solving model, including how to cope with situations that can still be used as a model and actually performed at both the self-level, family level and society level. For the inheritance, the creation of the work to create the charity reflected that people and society still believed in the virtue of the creation of the story in Buddhism, which was a merit act that would help the author to receive merit from charity which was intellectual karma. The reproduction and transmission the narrative of the buddha’s encounters with Mara in contemporary media indicated that society has given value to such stories and chose to remain it, not only helped to disseminate the Buddha's history but also played a role in propagating, cultivating the principles and teachings and concepts of overcoming for the obstacles of the Lord Buddha in another way.

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาลักษณะการผลิตซ้ำและการสืบทอดเนื้อหา แนวคิดรวมถึง ขนบวรรณคดีของเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารในสื่อร่วมสมัย ทั้งนี้ผู้วิจัยเลือกศึกษาเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารทั้งประเภทสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์และสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์รวมทั้งสิ้น 23 สำนวน

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า เรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารในสื่อร่วมสมัย ยังคงได้รับการผลิตซ้ำตามโครงเรื่องเดิม โดยนำเสนอผ่านรูปแบบที่หลากหลายมากกว่าในอดีตเป็นการแสดงให้เห็นถึงพัฒนาการของการผลิตซ้ำและการสืบทอดเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยในด้านเนื้อหานั้น ประเภทสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ได้สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงการสืบทอดและสร้างสรรค์เรื่องเล่าในรูปแบบวรรณกรรมร้อยแก้ว ส่วนในสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ ได้สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงพลวัตในการสืบทอดด้านเนื้อหาด้วยการแปรรูปเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารจากวรรณคดีลายลักษณ์สู่การเล่าเรื่องในรูปแบบอื่น ๆ อาทิ บทเพลง ภาพยนตร์และภาพยนตร์การ์ตูน มีการปรับเปลี่ยนรายละเอียดของเนื้อเรื่อง/เหตุการณ์และตัวละครเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับวัตถุประสงค์ในการสร้างสรรค์เรื่องเล่า ขณะเดียวกันก็เพื่อต้องการชี้ให้เห็นว่าความสำเร็จของพระพุทธองค์นั้นล้วนเป็นความสำเร็จที่วางอยู่บนรากฐานความเป็นมนุษย์ธรรมดา ๆ มนุษย์ผู้มีความเพียรพยายาม ด้านแนวคิด พบว่า ยังคงสืบทอดพุทธวิธีการเอาชนะมารที่ได้มาด้วยพุทธานุภาพและธรรมานุภาพอันเกิดจากบารมีนานัปการของพระพุทธองค์มิใช่ได้มาด้วยพละกำลังหรือศาสตราวุธใด นอกจากนี้การผลิตซ้ำเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารยังสืบทอดขนบวรรณคดีคำสอนที่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงวิธีการสอนและเผยแผ่หลักธรรมของพระพุทธองค์ ชี้ให้เห็นรูปแบบการแก้ไขปัญหารวมถึงวิธีการรับมือกับสถานการณ์ต่าง ๆ ที่ยังคงสามารถนำมาเป็นแบบอย่างและปฏิบัติได้จริงทั้งในระดับตนเอง ครอบครัวและสังคม ส่วนการสืบทอดขนบการสร้างงานเพื่อสร้างกุศลนั้นสะท้อนให้เห็นว่าผู้คนและสังคมยังคงเชื่อในอานิสงส์การสร้างงานจากเรื่องราวในพุทธศาสนาอันนับเป็นการกระทำบุญกิริยาที่จะช่วยให้ผู้แต่งได้รับบุญจากกุศลกรรมทางปัญญานั่นเอง การผลิตซ้ำและการสืบทอดเรื่องเล่าพระพุทธเจ้าผจญมารในสื่อร่วมสมัยเหล่านี้จึงเป็นการชี้ให้เห็นว่าสังคมได้ให้คุณค่ากับเรื่องเล่าดังกล่าวและเลือกที่จะให้ดำรงอยู่สืบไป ซึ่งไม่เพียงแต่จะช่วยเผยแพร่พุทธประวัติของพระพุทธองค์เท่านั้นยังมีบทบาทในการเผยแผ่และปลูกฝังหลักธรรมคำสอนและแนวคิดในการเอาชนะอุปสรรคทั้งหลายของพระพุทธองค์ในอีกทางหนึ่งด้วย
