The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) To investigate the current status of Salar Vocal Folk Music in Qinghai Province, China. 2) To analyze the characteristics of Salar Vocal Folk Music in Qinghai Province, China. 3. To propose guidelines for the preservation and transmission of Salar Vocal Folk Music in Qinghai Province, China. The research tools utilized observation forms, interview forms, and questionnaires with three key informants. The results of this research reveal the following: 1. The current status of Salar vocal folk music delves into the history and development of Salar vocal folk music, tracing its origins to Central Asia and Qinghai's Xunhua region during the Yuan Dynasty. It highlights the complex blend of Salar culture with local Tibetan, Hui, and Han communities, influenced by their Islamic faith, its growing popularity in China's world folk music scene, and the efforts to preserve it amidst changing environments, lifestyles, and tourism. 2. The characteristics of Salar vocal folk music are that it is a unique and captivating form of music, characterized by concise, structured lyrics and a rich tapestry of tones and melodic elements. It is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the Salar people, with the "mouth string" instrument, a symbol of their culture and heritage, playing a crucial role in expressing emotions and courtship. The music's unique structure, tonal patterns, and melodic intricacies make it an integral part of Salar identity and heritage. 3. The preservation and transmission of Salar vocal folk music is facing challenges due to its adaptability to modern times, lack of young inheritors, government support, limited financial resources, and diminishing audience. The aging of inheritors and the loss of artists threaten the cultural legacy. However, comprehensive guidelines offer hope for its preservation and transmission. Key components include securing government support, increasing investment, expert documentation, and collecting valuable materials.
