Narrative Techniques And Symbols in the Novels and Short stories of Jadej Kamjorndet

Abstract

This thesis aims to study the narrative techniques in the works of Jadet Kamjorndet and analyze the symbols and meanings within his writing. The study focuses on three collections of short stories and five novels, using the conceptual frameworks of narratology and symbolism. The results of the study reveal the use of unconventional storytelling methods, diverse and complex narrative forms, and a playful interaction between the narrator and the narrative through shifts in perspective and the selection of narrators. Furthermore, the study highlights the interaction between reality and fiction, alongside the use of metafiction techniques, referred to as "story within a story," to create multi-dimensional storytelling. The thematic concepts presented in his works revolve around four main ideas: 1. The essence of humanity, 2. The notion of alienation, 3. The longing for the past, 4. Beliefs and faith. The study of symbols and meanings identifies two categories of symbols: 1.Traditional Symbols, which are rooted in cultural or traditional contexts.2.Private Symbols, which are unique to Kamjorndet’s personal creative vision. These symbols contribute to the development of three primary types of meaning: 1. Identity and Self-Construction, which explores the intersection of traditional and modern ways of life, where identity is shaped by both internal choices and external influences. 2. Relationships, which depict the complex dynamics of interactions between characters, highlighting both connection and conflict. 3. Time, which contrasts the old and new worlds, using time as a tool to represent the complexity of society and the human mind.

วิทยานิพนธ์เล่มนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการเล่าเรื่องในงานเขียนของจเด็จ กำจรเดช และเพื่อศึกษาสัญลักษณ์และความหมายในงานเขียนของจเด็จ กำจรเดช ขอบเขตการศึกษา รวมเรื่องสั้นจำนวน 3 เล่ม และนวนิยายจำนวน 5 เล่ม โดยใช้กรอบแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับศาสตร์แห่งการเล่าเรื่องและกรอบแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับสัญลักษณ์ ผลจากการศึกษากลวิธีการเล่าเรื่องในงานเขียนของจเด็จ กำจรเดช พบว่ามีการใช้กลวิธีการเล่าที่ไม่เป็นไปตามขนบ การเล่าเรื่องที่หลากรูปแบบและมีความซับซ้อน มีการเล่นล้อระหว่างผู้เล่าเรื่องกับเรื่องราวผ่านการใช้มุมมองและการเลือกผู้เล่าเรื่อง การเล่นล้อระหว่างความเป็นจริงและความเป็นเรื่องแต่ง การซ้อนมิติของเรื่องราวด้วยการใช้กลวิธีการแบบเรื่องเล่าซ้อนเรื่องเล่าหรือเมตาฟิกชัน (metafiction) เพื่อให้เรื่องราวเป็นเรื่องเล่าที่มีมิติหลายระดับ มีการนำเสนอแก่นเรื่องหรือแนวคิด 4 ประเด็น คือ 1.แนวคิดเรื่องความเป็นมนุษย์ 2.แนวคิดเรื่องความแปลกแยก 3.แนวคิดเรื่องการโหยหาอดีต และ 4.แนวคิดเรื่องความเชื่อและความศรัทธา ด้านการศึกษาสัญลักษณ์และความหมายพบว่า สัญลักษณ์ที่ปรากฏจะแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภท ได้แก่ 1.สัญลักษณ์แบบคตินิยม (tradition symbol) และ 2.สัญลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว (private symbol) ซึ่งสัญลักษณ์ที่ปรากฏนั้นไปสู่การสร้างความหมาย 3 แบบ คือ 1.การสร้างความหมายด้านตัวตนและอัตลักษณ์ คือการกล่าวถึงเรื่องของตัวตนที่คาบเกี่ยวอยู่ระหว่างกึ่งกลางของสภาวะบางอย่าง ทั้งความเป็นวิธีดั้งเดิมและความเป็นวิถีแบบใหม่ การประกอบสร้างตัวตนนั้นเกิดจากความเป็นอัตบุคคลหรือถูกประกอบสร้างขึ้นจากแวดล้อมอื่น ๆ 2.การสร้างความหมายเรื่องความสัมพันธ์ คือพฤติกรรมความสัมพันธ์ของตัวละครที่มีต่อสิ่งต่าง ๆ ที่ต่างเกี่ยวข้องสัมพันธ์กันและขัดแย้งในเวลาเดียวกัน และ 3.การสร้างความหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเวลา คือการนำเสนอให้เห็นภาพขั้วตรงข้ามระหว่างโลกยุคเก่าและโลกยุคใหม่ อีกทั้งเวลายังใช้เป็นเครื่องมือเพื่อนำเสนอภาวะอันซับซ้อนของสังคมและในจิตใจของมนุษย์
