Abstract: The accordion is an imported instrument in Guizhou. After decades of development, it now faces many challenges. This study aims to explore three key aspects: (1) the historical development of the accordion in Guizhou Province, (2) an analysis of the performance techniques used in representative Guizhou accordion works, and (3) the social and cultural role of the accordion in Guizhou. The study employs a qualitative research approach, utilizing field surveys, in-depth interviews with three key informants, and observational methods to gather comprehensive insights into the historical and cultural dimensions of accordion music in Guizhou. The research results indicate that: (1) The current situation of accordion in Guizhou is closely related to the social and cultural changes in the region. There is a relatively systematic education and research foundation in several accordion major universities in Guizhou, but the application and popularization at the community level still need to be improved. Research has found that there are great challenges to the development of accordion in Guizhou, and more support and promotion are needed for the artistic dissemination of accordion, especially in promoting the popularization of accordion education and the integration of cultural activities. (2) The representative works of Guizhou accordion have unique historical and artistic significance, reflecting the music characteristics of local ethnic minorities. Through in-depth analysis of the performance techniques and artistic features of the works, the uniqueness of accordion in the expression and cultural connotation of Guizhou ethnic minority music is revealed. Seven special techniques are summarized when playing ethnic minority works, and the important role of accordion in cross-cultural communication and music creation is further explored.
