A DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS COMPREHENSIVE READING ABILITY BY USING SQ4R TEACHING METHOD WITH GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE

Abstract

This research aimed 1) to develop an instructional model integrating the SQ4R technique with graphic organizers to enhance English reading comprehension of Grade 11 students, and 2) to compare students’ English reading comprehension before and after receiving instruction using the developed model. The sample consisted of 40 Grade 11/10 students from a secondary school in Maha Sarakham Province, in the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling. Research instruments included 1) lesson plans based on the SQ4R technique integrated with graphic organizers, and 2) a researcher-constructed English reading comprehension. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and T-Test.

The results of the study were as follows:

1) the instructional model had an effectiveness of 78.32/78.66, which exceeded the specified criterion of 75/75.

2) the students’ post-instruction scores in reading comprehension were significantly higher than their pre-instruction scores at the .05 level, confirming the effectiveness of the developed instructional approach.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีความมุ่งหมาย 1) เพื่อพัฒนาการจัดการเรียนรู้เทคนิค SQ4R ร่วมกับแผนผังกราฟิก ที่มีต่อการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจระหว่างก่อนและหลังเรียน ด้วยการจัดการเรียนรู้เทคนิค SQ4R ร่วมกับแผนผังกราฟิก ตัวอย่างได้แก่ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5/10 โรงเรียนแห่งหนึ่งในจังหวัดมหาสารคาม จำนวนนักเรียน 40 คน ที่กำลังศึกษาในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2567 ซึ่งได้มาโดยการสุ่มแบบกลุ่ม (Cluster Random Sampling) เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยประกอบด้วย 1) แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิค SQ4R ร่วมกับแผนผังกราฟิก ที่มีต่อการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ และ 2) แบบทดสอบความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น สถิตที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และสถิติ T-Test

ผลการวิจัยปรากฏดังนี้

1) การพัฒนาการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิค SQ4R ร่วมกับแผนผังกราฟิกที่มีต่อการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 มีประสิทธิภาพเท่ากับ 78.32/78.66 ซึ่งเป็นไปตามเกณฑ์ที่กำหนด 75/75

2) นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 ที่ได้รับการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิค SQ4R ร่วมกับแผนผังกราฟิกที่มีต่อการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ มีความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียน เป็นไปตามสมติฐานที่ตั้งไว้อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05
