The Effects of Teaching Sixth Grade Students’ English Reading Comprehension by Using Murdoch Integrated Approach and Mind Mapping

Abstract

The purposes of this study were (1) to examine the achievement of sixth grade students’ English reading comprehension by using Murdoch Integrated Approach (MIA) and Mind Mapping and (2) to investigate the students’ satisfaction toward the intervention. The sample was 18 sixth grade students (7 female and 11 male) at Banlaoyung School, Tombon Koklam ,Jutturaprakpiman District, Roi-ET Province. The research was a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample group, selected by means of a purposive sampling technique was, taking an English course during the second semester of the academic year 2019. The research instruments were five-week lesson plans, English reading comprehension test, observation check lists and a satisfaction questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed with the use of means, standard deviation and t-test (dependent samples) and paired t-test. The findings showed that the mean score on post-test was higher than pre-test, showing that the use of MIA and Mind Mapping to teach the students’ English reading comprehension was found significantly different. The research findings also revealed that the students’ satisfaction toward the instructional management of English reading comprehension by using the MIA and Mind Mapping was at the most level. Based on the results of the study, it is hopeful to provide insights to the students, teachers and curriculum designers to integrate MIA and Mind Mapping strategy in English reading classes.

งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาและเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 ที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์ด็อค (MIA) ร่วมกับการใช้แผนผังความคิด (Mind Mapping) ระหว่างก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียนและเพื่อศึกษาความพึงพอใจต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์ด็อค (MIA) ร่วมกับการใช้แผนผังความคิด (Mind Mapping) เพื่อพัฒนาความสามารถด้านการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนบ้านเหล่ายูง ตําบลโคกล่าม อําเภอจตุรพักตรพิมาน จังหวัดร้อยเอ็ด ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2562 จำนวน 18 คน (หญิง 7คน ชาย 11 คน) ซึ่งได้มาโดยวิธีการเลือกแบบเจาะจง เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ได้แก่ แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยวิธีการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์เดอร์ร่วมกับแผนผังความคิด จำนวน 5 แผน แบบทดสอบวัดทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ แบบสังเกตการสอนและการเรียนรู้ของนักเรียนและแบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจที่มีต่อการเรียนการสอนด้วยวิธีดังกล่าว สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐานและค่าทางสถิติ t-test (Dependent Sample) ผลการวิจัย ปรากฏดังนี้ นักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์ด็อค (MIA) ร่วมกับการใช้แผนผังความคิด (Mind Mapping) มีความสามารถในการอ่านหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.1 และมีความพึงพอใจต่อการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์ด็อค (MIA) ร่วมกับการใช้แผนผังความคิด (Mind Mapping) อยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด ผลของการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่าวิธีการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการของเมอร์ด็อค (MIA) ร่วมกับการใช้แผนผังความคิด (Mind Mapping) เป็นวิธีการที่มีประสิทธิภาพที่ช่วยให้ผู้เรียน ครู และนักพัฒนา สามารถนำไปพัฒนาการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนในชั้นเรียนต่อไป
