Enhancing English Opinion Writing Ability of Grade 11th Students through the Use of Learning Together

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to study English opinion writing ability and attitudes towards English opinion writing through Learning Together. The participants were 18 grade 11th students from Mahasarakham University Demonstration School in the first semester of academic year 2017, selected by cluster random sampling. The instruments used in this study were three lesson plans, opinion writing pretest and posttest, semi-structured interview, students’ group-work observation form, and students’ attitude questionnaire. The mixed-methods design was utilized to collect and analyze data. The data were analyzed by mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test dependent samples.

The findings of this study are as follows:

1.) The students’ pretest and posttest English opinion writing ability scores were 10.17 and 14.39 respectively. The students’ English opinion writing ability was found significantly different at the 0.05 level.

2.) The students’ attitudes toward Learning Together through English opinion writing were at the “Good” level (Mean = 4.34)

English opinion writing ability increased after learning through Learning Together. Moreover, the students taught through Learning Together had higher attitude levels toward learning English writing. In conclusion, using Learning Together helped enhance students’ English opinion writing ability and their attitude toward English.

การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นของนักเรียนก่อนและหลังได้รับการเรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ Learning Together และเพื่อศึกษาเจตคติของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ Learning Together ในการพัฒนาความสามารถด้านการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษ กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ เป็นนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5/8 โรงเรียนสาธิตมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม อำเภอกันทรวิชัย จังหวัดมหาสารคาม ภาคเรียนที่ 1 ปีการศึกษา 2560 รวมทั้งสิ้น 18 คน ได้มาโดยการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบกลุ่ม เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในงานวิจัย ได้แก่ 1.) แผนการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ LT เรื่องการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็น 2.) แบบทดสอบวัดความสามารถทางการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษ 3.) แบบสัมภาษณ์กึ่งโครงสร้าง 4.) แบบสังเกตพฤติกรรมการทำงานกลุ่ม 5.) แบบวัดเจตคติของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และสถิติทดสอบค่าที

ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้

1.) ผลคะแนนที่ได้จากการทดสอบความสามารถด้านการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 พบว่า คะแนนทดสอบหลังเรียนสูงกว่าคะแนนทดสอบก่อนเรียนโดยมีค่าเฉลี่ย 14.39 และ 10.17 และระดับความสามารถด้านการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียน คืออยู่ในระดับมาก อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

2.) ผลคะแนนที่ได้จากการวัดเจตคติของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 ต่อการเรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ LT ในการพัฒนาการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษ พบว่า การแปลความหมายของการวัดเจตคติ ได้ค่าเฉลี่ยโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับเจตคติที่ดี มีค่าเฉลี่ย 4.34

จากผลการศึกษาพบว่าการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ LT สามารถช่วยให้นักเรียนมีความสามารถด้านการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษสูงขึ้น และมีเจตคติที่ดีต่อการเขียนแสดงความคิดเห็นภาษาอังกฤษมากขึ้น หลังจากที่เรียนรู้ด้วยกลุ่มร่วมมือแบบ Learning Together
