Isan Didactic Literature and Didactic Literature in Thai Language Textbooks: Relationships and Literary Techniques

Abstract

The purposes of this thesis aims to examine the relationship between Isan didactic literature and didactic literature in Thai language textbooks. In addition, it seeks to analyze the literary techniques present in both Isan didactic literature and Thai language textbooks. The study sheds light on two categories of books: 14 volumes of Isan didactic literature and 21 Thai language textbooks for primary (Grade 1) through secondary (Grade 12) education. The study’s framework was the relationships between literature and literary techniques.

The study results revealed that examining the relationship between Isan didactic literature and didactic literature in Thai language textbooks mutually shared characteristics in a variety of aspects of their relationships, including: 1) Serving as didactic literature that supports in the dissemination of religious beliefs because religion is highly regarded as a fundamental source of faith, encouragement, and devotion for individuals. This fosters diverse forms of religious motivation, including using religious principles to address questions beyond human comprehension, which bestowing blessings, and engaging in praying for serenity and solace. Furthermore, religion is a source of a plethora of ideologies and numerous teachings, which are woven into the literature to impart religious beliefs. This integration greatly enables learners to internalize the diverse beliefs inherent in Thai society. 2) Serving as didactic literature that educates members of society, the embedding of moral teachings within literature or textbooks allows these teachings to be gradually absorbed by learners through stories or lessons in a seamless and subtle manner. With the use of harmonious, rhythmic language and eloquent phrasing in Isan didactic literature and didactic literature in Thai language textbooks enhances the integration of moral guidance within these texts. This stylistic approach encourages learners to cultivate positive behaviors or follow the standards of conduct expected by society. 3) Serving as didactic literature that reflects the way of life and societal norms of the past is a characteristic essential to all types of literature. Regarding narrating any story or presenting content effectively, it is of important to create mutual and shared experiences or to immerse readers, learners, or scholars in the context that the author seeks to portray and enables learners to gain insight into the historical background and details of the subject under study. Hence, the relationship between Isan didactic literature and didactic literature in Thai language textbooks represents a learning form embedded with the integration of teachings related to beliefs, moral principles, and shared social contexts found in both types of didactic literature through Isan didactic literature and didactic literature in Thai language textbooks in a significant manner.

As for the literary techniques found in Isan didactic literature, the study reveals the following techniques: 1. The sound embellishment techniques in Isan didactic literature include 1.1 alliteration, which involves the repetition of consonant sounds, and 1.2 assonance, which involves the repetition of vowel sounds. 2. Techniques of word embellishment in Isan didactic literature include 2.1 repetition, the use of repeated words, 2.2 compounding, the use of compound words, and 2.3 word selection, the careful choice of words. 3. Techniques of meaning embellishment in Isan didactic literature include 3.1 figurative language and 3.2 rhetoric.

In terms of the literary techniques found in didactic literature in Thai language textbooks are as follows: 1. วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานและวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย และศึกษากลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์ในวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานและหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย โดยศึกษาจากหนังสือทั้งหมด 2 ประเภท ได้แก่ หนังสือวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสาน จำนวน 14 เล่ม และหนังสือเรียนรายวิชาภาษาไทยพื้นฐานชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 1 – มัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 6 จำนวน 21 เล่ม โดยใช้แนวคิด ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างวรรณกรรม และ กลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานกับวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย มีลักษณะร่วมของความสัมพันธ์ในด้านต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ 1. การเป็นวรรณกรรมคำสอนที่ช่วยในการสืบทอดความเชื่อทางศาสนา เนื่องจากศาสนาเป็นสิ่งที่มนุษย์ใช้เป็นหลักในการยึดเหนี่ยวให้มีความเชื่อ กำลังใจ ศรัทธาต่าง ๆ อันก่อให้เกิดแรงขับเคลื่อนทางศาสนาที่ตามมาอีกมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็น การใช้ศาสนาในการตอบคำถามที่มนุษย์ไม่สามารถให้คำตอบได้ การอวยพร การสวดภาวนา เพื่อความสงบ สบายใจ อีกทั้งศาสนายังเป็นบ่อเกิดแห่งอุดมการณ์ต่าง ๆ และคำสอนอีกเป็นจำนวนมากจึงมีการสอดแทรกการสอนความเชื่อทางศาสนาไว้ เพื่อให้ผู้เรียนได้ซึมซับความเชื่อต่าง ๆ ที่ปรากฏในสังคมไทย 2. การเป็นวรรณกรรมคำสอนที่ช่วยสั่งสอนผู้คนในสังคม เนื่องจากการสอดแทรกคำสอนลงในวรรณกรรมหรือแบบเรียน เป็นการทำให้คำสอนค่อย ๆ ถูกซึมซับเข้าไปยังผู้เรียนผ่านเรื่องราว หรือบทเรียนต่าง ๆ อย่างแนบเนียนและด้วยถ้อยคำ สัมผัสที่คล้องจองและความไพเราะทำให้วรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานและวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทยมีการสอดแทรกคำลงไปในวรรณกรรมดังกล่าว เพื่อให้ผู้เรียนเกิดพฤติกรรมที่ดีหรือใช้เป็นแนวทางในการปฏิบัติตามที่สังคมคาดหวังไว้ และ 3. การเป็นวรรณกรรมคำสอนที่สะท้อนวิถีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของสังคมในอดีต เป็นสิ่งที่วรรณกรรมทุกประเภทต้องมีการกล่าวถึง เนื่องจากการจะเล่าเรื่องใด หรือนำเข้าสู่เนื้อหาต้องมีการทำให้ผู้อ่าน ผู้เรียน หรือผู้ที่ศึกษาเกิดประสบการร่วม หรือทำความเข้าใจกับบริบทที่ผู้เขียนต้องการสื่อ หรือเล่าเรื่องนั้น ๆ และที่ทำให้ผู้เรียนได้ทราบประวัติความเป็นมา รายละเอียดในเรื่องที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ ดังนั้นความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานกับวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย จึงเป็นการศึกษาการสอดแทรกการสอนเรื่องราวที่เกี่ยวข้องกับความเชื่อ คำสอน อุดมการณ์และบริบททางสังคมที่มีร่วมกันของวรรณกรรมทั้ง 2 ประเภทผ่านตัววรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสานกับวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย อย่างมีนัยสำคัญ

ส่วนในด้านกลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์ที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสาน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า มีกลวิธีดังต่อไปนี้ 1. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งเสียงในวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสาน ได้แก่ 1.1 การเล่นเสียงสัมผัสพยัญชนะ 1.2 การเล่นเสียงสัมผัสสระ 2. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งคำในวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสาน ได้แก่ 2.1 การใช้คำซ้ำ 2.2 การใช้คำซ้อน 2.3 การสรรคำ 3. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งความในวรรณกรรมคำสอนอีสาน ประกอบด้วย 3.1 การใช้ภาพพจน์ 3.2 การใช้โวหาร อีกทั้งกลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์ที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย ผลการศึกษาพบว่า มีกลวิธีดังต่อไปนี้ 1. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งเสียงในวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย ได้แก่ 1.1 การเล่นเสียงสัมผัสพยัญชนะ 1.2 การเล่นเสียงสัมผัสสระ 2. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งคำในวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย ได้แก่ 2.1 การใช้คำซ้ำ 2.2 การใช้คำซ้อน 2.3 การสรรคำ 3. กลวิธีการปรุงแต่งความในวรรณกรรมคำสอนในหนังสือเรียนภาษาไทย ประกอบด้วย 3.1 การใช้ภาพพจน์ และ 3.2 การใช้โวหาร
