Abstract: This predictive correlational research aimed to predict the risk behaviors for substance abuse in junior high school students. The sample comprised 371 junior high school students from one of the districts of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The research instruments included questionnaires on self-control measures for high school and the risk behaviors for substance abuse in junior high school students. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for reliability were 0.89 and 0.72, respectively. The entire questionnaire had a confidence value of 0.89. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.  The results showed that there were factors associated with risk behaviors for substance abuse in junior high school students. These factors included self-control in work performance (r = .354, p-value < .01), self-control from stimulation (r = .267, p-value < .01), self-control in emotions (r = .431, p-value < .01), self-control in interpersonal relationships (r = .429, p-value < .01), and self-control with ethics (r = .267, p-value < .01). In the regression model, three variables predicted risk behaviors for substance abuse in junior high school students, accounting for 29.90% of the variance (R2 = .299). These variables were self-control in emotional aspects (R2 change = .186), self-control in work performance (R2 change = .095) and self-control in interpersonal relationships (R2 change = .019).  The results from this research can be useful in designing activities or developing programs to prevent risk behaviors for substance abuse in junior high school students by promoting self-control in emotional aspects, work performance and interpersonal relationships.
